Traditional British pub experience

"The Devonshire - JD Wetherspoon" in Skipton, England, is a traditional pub and restaurant that is part of the renowned British Wetherspoon chain. It is located in a historic building that was originally erected around 1800 as "The New Inn," an inn with stables for horses. It was later renamed "The Devonshire" in honor of the designer's daughter who married the Duke of Devonshire. This listed building, which has been part of the Wetherspoon family since 2004, has been meticulously restored and now combines the charm of bygone times with modern comfort. Centrally located in Skipton, a picturesque market town in North Yorkshire, it is a popular meeting place for locals, tourists, and day visitors alike.

Culinary-wise, "The Devonshire" offers the typical Wetherspoon experience with a wide range of British classics and international dishes. Particularly popular is the hand-battered Fish & Chips, featuring fresh cod in a crispy batter served with golden fries—a dish that perfectly captures British pub culture. The Chicken Tikka Masala, a spicy curry with tender chicken and creamy sauce, is also highly favored, showcasing the versatility of the cuisine. For breakfast guests, there's the Traditional Breakfast with fried bacon, sausages, eggs, and grilled tomatoes, which can be paired with unlimited tea or coffee refills. The menu also includes vegetarian and vegan options prepared with the same care, as well as regular themed nights like the Steak Club or Curry Club, offering variety.

Vegetarian and vegan options

The beverage selection is just as diverse and a hallmark of the establishment. In addition to a selection of real ales, often sourced from local breweries, there are craft beers and freshly brewed Lavazza coffee. Especially popular are the beer festivals held several times a year, attracting enthusiasts with a wide range of special and seasonal beers. For those who do not drink alcohol, there is a good selection of soft drinks and mocktails. The option to order via the Wetherspoon app makes the visit even more convenient, as guests can have their food and drinks delivered directly to their table without having to queue at the bar.

For some reason everyone was queued at the bar, stretching right back into the pub. Staff were encouraging it by shouting down "whos next", then the person next to me ordered food and the bar staff, unprompted, explained every ingredient in the dish and it took ages lol. This method of ordering made it quite slow and the pub was pretty empty

Wetherspoons? If you have been in one, then there's a good chance the next one that you go into will be pretty similar and The Devonshire is no exception. A very large old converted property full of rooms of all sizes and always busy! What Wetherspoons achieve across the country is the ability to provide beers and food at exceptionally reasonable prices and quality! 👍 It's a shame there aren't a lot more companies in the industry that don't follow Wetherspoons marketing philosophy in the current climate. "Go Spoons!"

I have been to 2 or 3 weatherspoons and not enjoyed it, either bad smells or dirty carpets. My friend suggested the one in skipton as she had been there before and really enjoyed it. I must say it was very nice inside, nice atmosphere, great service, and the food was delicious. I will be taking my mum there soon with my sister. 😊😊😊😊

Plates are usually hot in here. You know what you are getting in Spoons. Usually a decent guest beer or three. Friendly staff.

On a cold winter's day the pub had heaters blowing warm air around the rooms which made the dining experience more pleasant

Food lovely, but not everything was available on the menu, yet it was a Saturday afternoon! Pub gets noisy as it gets full. Lots of little rooms to sit in. Toilets upstairs.
